Dark Aeons

Dark Valefor
Location: Besaid Village

Returning to Besaid village, a man will run out telling your party that you are traitors. He will then summon dark Valefor which you will have to fight.

Dark Aeon Battle

Dark Aeon: Dark Valefor
HP: 800,000
AP: 10,000/15,000(overkill)
Items: Dark Matter x2
Equip: Double Header/Genji Shield
Steal: X-Potion x4

Dark Aeon Battle Tactic/Solution:
Of all the dark aeons, dark Valefor is the easiest aeon to beat. However, this doesn't mean dark Valefor will be easy to defeat. It will use Energy Ray a LOT. As soon as its overdrive gauge is full, it's a high possibilty that Energy Ray which deals an instant 9,999 damage, will be its next attack!

This is probably the main thing you should fear, as it will wipe out the entire party because each character's maximum HP is 9,999. But, you can block that 'Game Over' by summoning an aeon just before its overdrive gauge is full as an aeon's maximum HP is 99,999. Shell is important if you want to reduce the damage which dark Valefor deals to your party. Casting Auto-Life will help greatly when it uses Energy Ray on your party. If your characters are well built up with break HP limit and maybe break damage limit, then the battle should be easy and over in no time! If not, you shouldn't really be fighting dark Valefor.

Dark Ifrit
Location: Sanubia Desert

Return back to the Sanubia Desert and head in the direction of the once 'used to be called the Al Bhed Home'. Just before you get there, you will see a lady with her child. Look after her child for her, and wait for a cinematic sequence to start. After this, head north and talk to the ravine there. You will then need to fight dark Ifrit.

Dark Aeon Battle

Dark Aeon: Dark Ifrit
HP: 1,400,000
AP: 20,000/30,000(overkill)
Items: Dark Matter x2
Equip: Arcane Ring/Soul of Mog
Steal: Mega Pheonix x2

Dark Aeon Battle Tactic/Solution:
Dark Ifrit has a counter ability, and every attack will be countered (including magic attacks). His overdrive is non-elemental, which will be something you must look out for. If you haven't got break HP limit, you don't have a chance.

Summon your aeons just before his overdrive gauge fills up. Auto-Life is a must to ensure that you don't get killed instantly during an overdrive you weren't prepared for.

With a hefty dark Ifrit possesing 1,400,000 HP, you should be experiencing a long battle ahead of you. But, this shouldn't be too much if you've got break damage limit for some of your characters. The best way to deal heaps of damage to dark Ifrit is to make sure that Tidus has a break damage limit dealing at least 40,000 damage per normal hit, then use the overdrive, Blitz Ace on him. You should be able to take out over 300,000 points of damage in this one move!

Dark Ixion
Location: Thunder Plains

Make a return trip to the Thunder Plains, north, where there is a save sphere just before you exit it. Dark Ixion will be there ready for a battle!

Dark Aeon Battle

Dark Aeon: Dark Ixion
HP: 1,200,000
AP: First Battle - 20,000/30,000(overkill)
       Second Battle - 40,000/50,000(overkill)
Items: Dark Matter x4
Equip: Ochre Bangle/Ochre Bracer/Genji Shield
Steal: Stamina Tablet x2

Dark Aeon Battle Tactic/Solution:
This battle consists of two phases.

In the first battle, dark Ixion has a counter ability, and every attack will be countered(including magic attacks). His attack, although lightning based, can't be reduced or absorbed with NulShock. You'll just have to contend with that.

The Auto-Ability Ribbon is a must for this battle, as every attack countered will add a sleep status to your character. Dark Ixion's other attacks can inflict the Full Break status on your party members.

Once you defeat dark Ixion in the first battle, make sure you save your game immediately as the second battle will soon begin. In the second battle, dark Ixion doesn't automatically counter every attack, but all his attacks will add the confuse and break statuses on your characters. Again, Ribbon will help you out here.

Dark Ixion's overdrive deals an extremely high damage. But, if you've fought any of the previous aeons before, you know what to expect, and it shouldn't be that difficult for you to take care of dark Ixion.

Dark Shiva
Location: Macalania Temple

Simply return to Macalania Temple. At the entrance, a guado guard will block your path and summon dark Shiva.

Dark Aeon Battle

Dark Aeon: Dark Shiva
HP: 1,100,000
AP: 20,000/30,000(overkill)
Items: Dark Matter x2
Equip: Rod of Ice/Excalibur
Steal: Mana Tablet x4

Dark Aeon Battle Tactic/Solution:
This should be an easy battle if your characters' statistics are the maximum statistics.

Dark Shiva's agility is extremely high and you'll have a hard time just trying to attack it, let alone getting damaged by one of its attacks. All of dark Shiva's attacks dispel any positive statuses that you have on your characters and also cause berserk and confusion!

Ribbon will guard you against these two status effects. However, dark Shiva's special attack, Heavenly Strike, apart from slowing you down, will cast Death as well, which your Ribbon won't be able to guard you against.

Be sure to have spells ready to counter the these kind of attacks, and don't forget to watch out for dark Shiva's overdrive, Diamond Dust. Summon an aeon when dark Shiva is about to launch an overdrive, so that you can block it from wiping out your entire party.

Dark Bahamut
Location: Zanarkand Dome

Return to the Zanarkand Dome, the place where you fought Yunalesca. You will find dark Bahamut waiting for you there.

Dark Aeon Battle

Dark Aeon: Dark Bahamut
HP: 4,000,000
AP: 30,000/40,000(overkill)
Items: Dark Matter
Equip: Super Goalie
Steal: Twin Stars x2

Dark Aeon Battle Tactic/Solution:
Don't expect the battle to commence quickly. With a hefty 4,000,000 HP, you're going to be fighting for a while, unless all your characters have their specialty statistics maximised out(Yuna - Magic, Auron - Strength, etc). Dark Bahamut has a high evade rate and will dodge a couple of your attacks, especially if you don't have enough accuracy statistics.

If you can survive the first couple of hits, you better watch out now. Dark Bahamut will use his special attack, Impulse, just before his overdrive gauge fills up, which will then finish filling up his overdrive gauge and he will use Mega Flare immediately after that!

Now, unless your characters have an extremely high amount of HP, you will have no chance to withstand both of these attacks or even one of dark Bahamut's attacks.

Take note that dark Bahamut's special attack, Impulse, will cause petrifaction, Slow, Full Break and delay. The bad news is that, even if you have armour that protects against these spells like Slowproof, you will still get affected! However, Ribbon may offer adequate protection.

Auto-Life and Auto-Haste is a must in this dark aeon battle.

Dark Yojimbo
Location: Cavern of the Stolen Fayth

Make a return trip to the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth. Step on the teleport panel to get to the back of the cave, the place where you got Yojimbo. Then, try to go back out. A summoner will block your path and summon dark Yojimbo.

Dark Aeon Battle

Dark Aeon: Dark Yojimbo
HP: 1,600,000
AP: 8,000/10,000(overkill)
Items: Dark Matter x7, Master Sphere x1
Equip: Nemesis Rod/Ashura/Vendetta/Genji Bracer/Heaven's Cloud
Steal: Stamina Tonic x2

Dark Aeon Battle Tactic/Solution:
Yojimbo will always have the first move, unless one of your characters has the First Strike ability. Even with this on, there are a couple of attacks you should watch out for.

Start the battle with Ribbon and Auto-Life on all of your party members if possible. There's not much of a warning of dark Yojimbo's Wakizashi attack, which will cause 99,999 damage to all of your characters! Thus Auto-Life is a must to prevent your party from being wiped out in a single blow. Dark Yojimbo's overdrive, Zanmato, does the same amount of damage as Wakizashi, but also removes all positive status effects off your party. It's a wise decision to summon any aeon out just before his overdrive gauge is full, so it can take the damage for you.

Dark Yojimbo's dog, Diagoro, casts petrifaction on you, even if you have the Stoneproof ability on your armour. Ribbon can protect you from this though.

His attack, Kozuka, causes quite a lot of damage, and will also cause slow and full break to be cast on your characters. Auto-Haste will take care of slow if you have it.

After defeating dark Yojimbo, you'll find that the battle isn't over just yet. You will see the the summoner running off towards the exit. Follow him to continue the battle. There is a save sphere which you can save at after the first battle. However, reloading the game from here still means you will have to fight dark Yojimbo in the first part of the battle! But you still get the items you own before, so if you want, you can finish the first battle, save, reload, fight again, get more items, save reload, fight again, get more items, etc. You can do this until you defeat him 5 times, after which he will be dead for good.

Dark Anima
Location: Mt. Gagazet

Make a return trip to Mt. Gagazet and complete the 1st Trial of Gagazet where Wakka has to throw the blitzball at the target. The challenge is a bit more difficult this time round. But, once you do it successfully, go back to the mountain gates. You will find Dark Anima there.

Dark Aeon Battle

Dark Aeon: Dark Anima
HP: 8,000,000
AP: 30,000/40,000(overkill)
Items: Dark Matter x2
Equip: Sanctuary
Steal: Three Stars x2

Dark Aeon Battle Tactic/Solution:
You won't have much of a chance of defeating dark Anima if you all your characters' statistics are not the maximum statistics. All of dark Anima's attacks will cause poison, stone, zombie and curse status effects on your party members. Having Ribbon will make it a little easier for you. The bad news is that dark Anima's Pain attack will definitely cause instant death to one of your party members. I don't think you can prevent it, but you can prepare for it by casting Auto-Life.

Mega-Graviton is one of the attacks to watch out for, since it will deal damage equivalent to almost half of a characters' maximum HP. You will be able to survive 2 of these attacks in a row if your character(s) have maximum HP.

You probably won't be able to hit dark Anima very well, so cast the Aim ability to increase some of the vital statistics for this dark aeon battle.

You may want to use your aeons to block any damage you see coming your way. Counter-attack is also quite useful, especially on someone who can deal 100,000 damage.

Dark Magus Sisters
Location: Mushroom Rock(North end of Mi'ihen Highroad)

At Mushroom Rock, where you are just about to enter the beach location, there is a path at the south east. Go down this path to find the dark Magus Sisters. They will chase you and there is no point in running away since they will always catch you. You will need to fight them all!

Dark Aeon Battle

Dark Aeon: Dark Magus Sisters
HP: Dark Mindy: 2,000,000
       Dark Sandy: 2,500,000
       Dark Cindy: 3,000,000
AP: 30,000/40,000(overkill)
Items: Dark Matter x4, Master Sphere x1
Equip: Excalibur x3
Steal: Dark Mindy: Teleport Sphere
            Dark Sandy: Friend Sphere
            Dark Cindy: Return Sphere

Dark Aeon Battle Tactic/Solution:
Fighting three dark aeons all at once can be very challenging!

Dark Mindy should be taken out first, since she has the lowest amount of HP. Defeating one first will mean that they cannot use their overdrive, Delta Attack. Dark Mindy can also cause instant death with her attack, Passado. So, this is another reason dark Mindy should be defeated quickly!

Next, focus on dark Sandy. But, try to deal damage to dark Cindy too if an attack like Ultima presents itself to your party.

Auto-Life would be a waste in this part of the battle, since dark Sandy removes it with her attack, Razzia. But, once dark Sandy is dead, immediately use Auto-Life. The attack, Razzia, will also reduce your party's defense to 0, so beware! You can't do anything about it, but be more careful, and make sure your HP gauge is always almost full!

Dark Cindy isn't much of a threat without the other sisters. But, her attack, Camisade, will remove all of the protective spells that is in your party and like dark Sandy, reduce your party's defense to 0. If dark Cindy's overdrive gauge fills up, she will unleash Mega-Graviton which deals damage equivalent to half of a characters' maximum HP. This is the same for any one of the dark Magus Sisters.

If you have Stamina Tablets, it would be a good time to use it in this dark aeon battle, just to make sure that you will not be killed while your defenses are at 0. Other than that, you will just have to try your best. If you fail, fight the battle again. But this time, summon Yojimbo......

Penance
Location: Penance(Airship Destination List)

Once you have defeated all the 8 dark aeons, go to the airship's destination list and select the option to battle Penance.

Dark Aeon Boss Battle

Dark Aeon Boss: Penance
HP: Body: 7,000,000
       Arms: 600,000(each)
AP: 100,000/130,000(overkill)
Items: Dark Matter x3, Master Sphere x3
Equip: Eternity
Steal: Elixir x6

Dark Aeon Boss Battle Tactic/Solution:
Penance is one tough monster to defeat. It can kill you instantly with his attack, Judgment Day. Kill both of its arms as fast as you can and then start attacking his body for a couple of turns before his arms regenerate.

Whenever you have killed both of its arms, you can safely cure your party members and prepare them to fight the next pair of regenerated arms. Overdrives work well against this monster. So, Unleashing overdrives will make this battle a lot easier.

This will be quite a repetitive battle as you have to kill the arms, heal your characters, deal as much damage as you can to the body before the arms regenerate, arms regenerate, kill the arms again......

You may take an hour or even more to defeat Penance.

All aeons and characters must have the maximum aeon or character statistics in this battle. Stamina Tablets come in handy to give your HP a boost. Using healing water when you have a chance provides a quick way of healing all of your party's HP back to full. Casting Auto-Life and Auto-Haste may help.

In this battle, summoning Yojimbo would be the easiest solution.
